4 gb usable out of 8gb

ps - my pc died after getting burned I rebuild it yesterday after 2 years when some one sent me a motherboard for free though now the widnows show 4gb ram only though bios show 8 gb any suggestions?

 

I have already tried msconfig and trying computer with single stick works... 

 

both stick works > though if I insert a single stick in second slot it would not boot with both sticks.

 

Cpuz and aida64 shows 8 gb even bios but windows says 4 gb usable out of 8.

Reinstall Windows. That, or a mod slot or RAM stick is dead.

Reinstall windows like @Zando Bob said and how old is the drive?

Weird question, but are you perhaps mistakingly trying to install a 32-bit version of Windows? Because that can't handle more then 4GB

 

Edit: if that screenshot is from your system then it seems you have 64-bit installed and my remark makes no sense. If this is the case, please make sure that all bios settings are reverted to default. If this is done and it's still not usable I suspect your new Motherboard automaticly assigns the RAM to a on-board GPU. We got to love the Windows Vista/Windows 7 era. Installed windows 10 (64 bit same issue) > ram is not dead I tried one stick at a time and pc booted up. > and I tried different slots (other color slots) same issue > it seems to be bios related.

yep even got ram sticks checked out booted other pcs too on single stick :c

Yep found a work around just now after spending 4 hours opening and closing swapping in and out of ram sticks

Not really sure what when wrong or why it did not work

 

I tried dimm1 and dimm 2 slot in dual bios and other like shown in manual did not work then I plugged sticks in 3 and 4 slot and it just worked...

They do work together but then the windows 10 detects it as 8gb but useable 4 gb not sure what is going on

This is so dumb situation. I got 99% same issue. Fully 8gb usable only if ram is in in right order in slot 3 and slot4. And if you put ramA in slot4 and ramB in slot3 it doesnt work. Full internet with msconfig videos which are not helping in this situation.  Ps. Specially Made account to write this reply. In 2020 we have sams problems heh.
