Alright so, I spilled water into my computer about a week ago (Last Sunday specifically). With this, I disassembled my computer around Tuesday-Wednesday. Now I'm wondering, should I reassemble the computer today, tomorrow, or finish the full week and assemble it on Sunday? I really want to know what parts work or if the system boots, as I am stuck completely bored watching 10-month old TF2 Youtube videos. And should I try to boot up without my GPU? (Water got spilled onto the back plate and its VGA power ports.)

Visually check to see the water is completely gone, then do a smoke test I guess with only the bare minimum components. (CPU, RAM, board).

Smoke test? And you mean test out now? And should I put my CPU cooler back on or just leave it off since this is a test? And if the computer doesn't boot with these components, do I infer that these components are all damaged?

I think he means Literal smoke test.  As in, if something was shorted by water you will see smoke when you turn it back on.

The reason for suggesting to only use CPU, Ram and Board is to minimize things that could go wrong and verify things that are still working.

CPU, RAM MOBO work?  Add your drives back on one at a time.  They all work?  Add your GPU back.  That works?  Add the next thing until you are back up and running, or you can see what was damaged.

Ah, alright, thanks. Another thing, I'm in the process of reinstalling my CPU, how am I supposed to reinstall the cover thing? I've aligned and placed the CPU inside, should I flip the metal piece back down and then place the metal arm beneath it? When I do that, it isn't secure and its still flippable.

i5 4690k on MSI PC MATE Z97. Another thing, when installing my RAM I don't think its locking in. I can literally slide it out.

You will need to fix that before rebooting.

Watch and learn.  I think he does RAM too.

Update, got the RAM installed, turns out I wasn't using enough force. And I think I've done the same thing to the CPU retention plate thingy, but I think its broken. I'll keep on trying to pull it down until some kinda pressure is emitted or whatever.

You have to push it down pretty hard to get it under the latch.  Hope it's not broken...

I think I know the problem. There are two very small hooks at the basis of the retention arm. They don't seem to be hooked to that basis.

Though, looking at pictures of other CPUs and other retention plates, I don't see them hooked either.. I'll try flipping the computer up and see if the CPU is held in place.
