How did it get stuck? And you could try with pliers, but it'll completely destroy the cable.

Just push in on the two little metal tabs, find something to press them with or it will hurt like a bitch(use something flat to go across both metal tabs.) xD This happened to me a time or two.

 

You could even just put the plastic piece back on just to use the button on it. I've done that too.

With something thin you can try to press the macanisim. Give it a little drop of WD40 to lose it up

I didn't say the cable was cheap, I said 'Cheaply made'.. It is sad there are so many out there that just fall apart even if you paid good money for them.
