Should I go with a Kraken G12?

Many weeks ago now I started using a 1440p monitor, around that time I started keeping track of my gpu's temps, and while gaming they're getting high af.

 

I'm using an MSI 1070 Gaming X, a non-reference card. Using Overwatch as an example, I play it at highest settings i can go and still get 60fps, I have the gpu tem monitor on in top corner and if I'm at the menu or on selection screen it goes to 65-70c, and when in game it fluctuates from 78c-84c at hottest.

 

That's pretty damn hot and really concerning considering I'm not using an Nvidia stock cooler. I've only been playing OW, somewhat cause I'm kind of concerned about how hot it could go in more demanding games I have. I don't have any gpu overclocks going on that I know of (I don't even know how to OC gpu).

 

I don't really want to do a custom loop for this since that's expensive as balls, however I'm considering using a Kraken G12 and an AiO 140mm cooler, was wanting feedback though about that, if anyone else has experiences with those, and how big a difference using a AiO for a gpu can make compared to a normal cooler.

 

Also will a Kraken G12 be able to fit my gpu? The gpu I'm using isn't a reference card, MSI having their own card design. Also would I still be able to use the backplate from my gpu?

You likely have poor air flow in your case honestly. I have the exact same card and I usually hit around 70c on more demanding titles such as PUBG or Witcher 3 on 1440p Ultra/high settings.

you should be getting way more fps in overwatch ultra.. 

 

anyways the G12 mounts using the backplate/midplate screws, which i believe every modern card has

he got a nzxt noctis 450 is should be okay, what you should chek is that the frontfans blows cold air in the case aand the rear fan exhausts its...

hot air rises will cold air sinks, so have intake fans lower to the floor then the exhaust fan.

I have three fractal venturi 120mm airflow fans at front, two 140mm static pressure ones at top for my cpu cooler, and a 140mm airflow fan at back for exhaust. I did tweak my front fans a little to go a little faster but didn't make any difference

im using a g10 with a intel ts1 3x it works great for me, and i get som extra mhz for overclocking.placed the aio where the exhaust fan should be and i never go above 74 c under max 4k gaming

I could go higher if I wanted, but my 1440p monitor is only 60fps. It can OC to 75, but not sure how my temps would like that

Forgot to update my signature, but I'm using the Corsair Air 540 case now.

 

I have the two bottom fans on the front, the ones pointed directly at my gpu and hdds going a little faster but didn't change anything

Those temps are normal, but if your not comfortable with it than g12 is the best option. I have a g10 I use on my 1080 ti, these gpu mounts are pretty universal. The card runs at near silent at full load and my temps hover around 50c. The max I have ever seen on it was 55c. If you have the $$$ for it I highly recommend it because it will improve your thermals on the card, it won't interfere with the back plate, it's re-usable as long as there are no major changes to the pcb, and it will improve the life span of the card.

If your playing overwatch on a 1070 you really don't need any OC, you should already be getting the max fps. Personally I have no need for it on a 1080 ti, but if your curious here's a tutorial. This version of MSI GUI is outdated, but the concepts remain the same. You can't harm your GPU doing an OC so it's free performance and entirely up to you if you want to do it or not. Try it just for fun because you can always revert it to default.

It is summer time so there's the possibility that it's because it being hot as balls outside and inside, although air coming out of back exhaust seems pretty cool.

If I still get 78-83c temps in OW by Fall time then I'll probably strongly consider replacing cooler with the G12

If i'm getting this kind of temps without any overclock I'm worried about what kind of temps I'd get after it. When Fall/Winter time comes and I still have these temps then I'll look into getting the G12, hopefully that gives me a lot of headroom with thermals, might consider OCing a bit then

the summer is here and its makes your pc to hoot   made my cpu rise about 3-4 degrees on its idle temps...

You have the frame limiter enabled. Set it to custom and it will go all the way to 300

the voltage is what would increase your temps, but nvidia has the voltage controls locked so you shouldn't see an increase. Its good learning experience, but as far as performance goes your card is already factory overclocked by MSI so you won't get any major gains from it at least nothing you would notice while gaming. I don't want to be confusing with mixed messages here, but do an OC just for fun it's not really needed for gaming performance.

What I meant by my post is 60fps is my target. I go for as high settings as I can go while still getting 60, that being my monitors refresh rate. although it can OC to 75 and might try that out

I wouldnt recommend that, go for unlocked. Itll be a better experience
