1. Take out 1060 and put your old gpu back in, copy data away to another hard drive or USB flash drive.

2. Put old gpu in and partition hard drive so that there's a new empty partition and install Linux there.

You may want to contact RMA because the card may be faulty.

I bought a 290 at launch...I used it for about 14 hours and it died on me.

6 wk RMA...rinse and repeat many times.

 

I killed 7x R9 290x's within a year (all stock clocked, and RMA'd - I'm sure they hated my client number)

It felt like the 'upclock' under load didnt sync with the upped voltage required...and would skitch out time to time (playing games fine for hours) but random restarts, artifacting on desktop, and even needing to wait for these to cool down before all that went away...

Spent more time in RMA's than actually Gaming.

 

Yet a GTX970 was working fine.... so I kept that for sure...

I tried a 980Ti, similar as the R9 290's.... was flakey, but semi-stable..

Bought new PSU, didn't change anything.

 

Replaced the motherboard... fixed, 2 of my remaining R9 290's fully work, without issue after MANY hours, no ill effects afterwards, my 980Ti is running full steam without issue..

You'd be surprised how hard a solution is to find... you'd Not normally think that its the motherboard (zero slot damage btw) but it can sometimes be the case...

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
