Which CPU?

So I recently acquired an HP TouchSmart 300 AiO from my boss.  He didn't need it anymore so he just gave it to me.

Last night I took apart the AiO, cleaned it out, and repasted the CPU.  (I even bent like three pins on it, but was able to straighten them out with my knife and debit card).  But the CPU itself is full desktop AM3 socket.

The CPU is the Athlon 2 X2 240e, which is has a 45W TDP.  I checked and I saw several tri-core and quad core Athlon 2s on the socket that fit within that 45W TDP margin, and I was wondering what is the best CPU I can get for this socket (within thermal margin) as a result?

I don't want to chance going over a 45W CPU due to thermal limits.  The AiO has a robust cooling design, I'll give it that, but I don't trust it enough for anything higher.

Thank you.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

Opening up an AIO is probably the worst thing to do. It's not designed to be taken apart, so putting it back without leaking after that will be hard.

If it is an AIO, then you probably don't have to worry about TDP. Just get the fastest one on this socket.

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

You do know AiO can also mean All in One computer.... like an iMac.. or the very computer I was talking about:

Not keen on getting a dead CPU, thanks though?

It's an offer thought (the system is getting sold idk when but it's decent price because my city is full of low ballers)

Not going over the 45Watt TDP, for two reasons :

The heatsink was not made for higher than 45watt TDP (probably).

Also the power supply might not be powerful enough.

Those chips in these AIO systems are often the mobile chips, you might be able to upgrade it but most likely it's not worth the time and effort. I see this socket is a AM3, just look here.

Best bet would be to buy a used ;

615e, Quad-core, 2.5 GHz, 2MB L2, 45 Watt, Socket AM3, AD615EHDK42GM

31 bucks for that cpu.

Is it really worth it? Depends for what you want to use it, honestly I would just sell it because it's kinda uesless if you look at the price and performance.

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Athlon+II+X4+615e

But yeah before you sell it might be smart to run dban on it so there's nothing left on the harddrive..

It's AM3 socket, so obviously it's not a mobile chip.

AiO is fairly easy to get into.

I'm not selling it.  I collect old computers as it is and repurpose them.

I never said it was mobile amd chip. Like i said, mostly they are, but some are not.

Ok well collect it if you like. I hope you find my post useful.
