Hello everyone, I;m a first time poster here at LTT. I am currently in the middle of researching my parts for my first build and I have narrowed my CPU choice to either an i7 6800k or i7 7700k (might go to red team if it's worth it). I've seen many videos online showing either one of them in favour but I can't decide what to go with. I plan to have a GTX 1080 Ti Strix and 32GB of RAM and an m.2 drive in the system. The machine will be used a lot for gaming and as a workstation (e.g. using photoshop etc.) Cost isn't of the most relevance, I want to make sure that whatever I get lasts me for the longest time even as I upgrade GPUs over the years. Sorry if I left out any other relevant information. Thank you for your help in advance.

If you must stick to the blue team, go 7700k. Buuuuut, for the price of a 7700k, you could probs get a Ryzen 1800 or 1800x which would kick any Intel chip right up the ass

For gaming and Photoshop the i7-7700K and i7-7740K are still top dogs. https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Photoshop-CC-2017-1-1-CPU-Comparison-Skylake-X-Kaby-Lake-X-Broadwell-E-Kaby-Lake-Ryzen-7-976/

If you think you will have a need for more than 64GB of memory, then the i7-7740K on an X299 motherboard is a good choice. Given its higher base clock, it also performs a little better than the i7-7700K.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
