Play gta in windowed borderless or windowed mode so it doesn't have to minimize when going out of focus. Using a controller i can have gta open and play it while doing other things with my mouse and keyboard, and it is running in windowed mode.
Does your computer lock up with gta having a white tint over it, blue screen, black screen or just freeze frame of gta?

I was just listing things that kill the game. Mentioned it cause if I accidentally pushed a button that would bring up an overlay to something like xbox, relive, ect it would lock everything up

Go to the GTA 5 install directory, and create a shortcut for GTA 5 Launcher. Right click your new shortcut, and go into properties. In the "Target" window, write " -verify" after the quotations that surround the file path with a space separating the two. Now launch that, and it'll verify the game files for you.

I play GTA 5 all the time on my FX-6300, so it's definitely no deficiency of the CPU. It may be an instability, though.
