Time and Background not staying on Raspberry Pi

So I've built a Pi top (includes raspberry Pi 3b and a Pi top hub) and every time I shut down my background and time reset, so if there's a reason for this, please tell me why.

Doesn't look like Pi top includes a real time clock. Ada fruit sells one

on yet background script the line that has

background=file.img store=persistent

maywork for clock too
