dumb question but if i upgrade my core2quad q9450 with a i5 2400 (motherboard included of course) will using the same hard drive not cause any problems even when i use the same ram, and graphics card? like won't i need to install new drivers for the mobo?

You will indeed need to reinstall the drivers though, and it's possible that the Windows won't be activated as it ties the serial key to the CPU/mobo serial number.

Your drive will still work fine though.

so besides from installing new drivers, i need to install a new os?

Yes it is possible. I would say give it a try first and see what you will encounter. Windows will boot anyway, you just may receive a message telling you to activate.

i5 2400 uses DDR3, but some core 2 quads are compatible with both DDR2 and DDR3. Make sure you have DDR3 rather than DDR2.

Upgrading from Q9450 to i5 2400 isn't much of a performance increase though. Maybe get a P45 chipset mobo in good state and overclock the Q9450?

i'm using ddr3 memory with my board and its hard to find motherboard with chipsets that both support ddr3 and oc in my place :/

i was thinking of having one shipped but shipping costs to my country is quite high :(

Then maybe buy one with DDR2, preferably bundled? It won't be any more expensive than a i5 2400 set and you can't overclock the i5 at all.

i was planning to buy but is it really worth the money to just oc my q9450 rather than buy the 2400? i mean i can upgrade in the future if i want to, maybe to an ivy bridge i5 or i7 if they get cheap unlike the q9450 which is almost on the top of bracket on the core2quads

By the time when overclocked Q9450 gets too slow for games, so is all locked sandys and ivys other than the top of the line i7s like the 2600 and 3770. In that case, it's better to save up the money now and build a entirely new system or use used Ryzens in the future instead.

With the stock cooler you can get about 3GHz on the CPU, 3.5GHz or more with aftermarket cooler that is good.

i see where you're getting at but as time passes in my country.. somehow old components are get more expensive.. i found the i5 2400/mobo bundle for around $90 (converted).. and for me that is already kinda expensive...

so, in the end, i should consider on buying newer hardware rather than older gen tech? well time to earn some cash lol
