Hi, I'm new to this forum, even if I already been reading thing here.

Normally I don't ask any help on forum because I can do it myself... But for this time I need help of people with more experience in PC build than I do!

So here's the problem: Yesterday night, I wanted to game on my PC with my new (used) gpu because the day before I've downloaded all my Steam games. So when the computer start I ear 5 short beeps and the screen was on power save mode. So I restart the PC and the same thing happened. All of this to say that my GPU seems to be already dead after 5 hours of gaming, while the computer was off.

I've tested all the connections, reseated the GPU and the ram. I even swap the CPU with an old one and I didn't work too, always 5 short beeps. Then I swap the GPU for my old one and boom the system started.

While the two GPU was in the PC, I went to "UEFI system browser" to see that my new GPU isn't recognized by the motherboard.

I'm pretty sure that the GPU is dead by now but in the same time I can't believe it because it happened while the PC was off. The last time it worked, I was gaming before shutting down the PC.

So if anyone can help it would be very appreciated, because the money I spent on this piece of junk was all I had for my gaming rig.

P.S. I hope you can understand me easily, because English isn't my native language.

System specs:

Thermaltake tr2 700 watts

Fx-8320

Gigabyte r9 270x 2gb (or Asus 4870 dark knight 1gb)

If you talk about the GPU, I bought it on Kijiji and the guy show me the card running. The thing is, it ran 5 hours of gaming and died

Did he benchmark it while you were there?

You are saying that YOU personally played with this card for 5 hours or did he? You mentioned that you downloaded steam games but you didn't mention playing with it. So we are a little confused on that aspect. Anyway....

I had a NEW Zotac 1080 AMP and it died literally 6 months after. It would boot up fine for a few days and then do the exact thing you're describing. Tried different slots and it would work for a bit and then stop. Now it doesn't work at all. This was a brand new card keep in mind. So for your situation with it being a used card, I have a feeling that there are three things here: 1. You got scammed and the guy knew the card was dying or 2. the guy did some overclocking with it and/or maybe it got too hot at one point for too long and now its finally died. 3. same as 2 but it was also mishandled or possibly dropped.

Do you happen to know by any chance what the temperature of the card was when you were gaming with it? And is there a burn smell or a smell from the card that would kinda indicate is getting too hot?

I did game on it for about 5 hours. I didn't monitor the temps while gaming, but when I benchmark it with furmark, it ran around 60° celcius maximum (thought I didn't benchmark it too long). I've tried everything I could from changing slot to try it an other PC.
