Hello,

I currently have a AMD 7950 as my gpu. Recently i have been getting a lot more crashes and performance issues and was wondering if anyone could help and/or recommend upgrades (cheap upgrades).

I have a link to my PC specs and how it ran on userbenchmark down below. For the lazy ones that dont want to open a new page they are as follows

UserBenchmarks: Game 22%, Desk 41%, Work 28%
CPU: Intel Core i5-2320 - 53.6%
GPU: AMD HD 7950 - 16.3%
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 1TB - 78.7%
RAM: Kingston 9905471-017.A00LF 029E CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 9905471-017.A00LF 029E CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 12GB - 48.3%
MBD: Asrock Z77 Pro3

Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you!

The first thing to go should be the GPU, then the CPU. What GPU depends on your budget and power supply wattage and model.

Frankly, that machine is getting quite old. Performance across new titles would be limited. The HDD doesn't really need to be replaced, however, if you did build another system I would recommend using an SSD for at-least the OS.

Overall, I think that you should upgrade to something along the lines of:

CPU: i5-6400 or Ryzen 5 1600

GPU: 1050 ti (good option as it is not impacted by Etherium mining price increases)

RAM: 16GB of compatible memory, clockspeed isn't crucial for gaming.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

Your GPU score is way below average, is it throttling?

Yea I know its getting quite old, the only problem with upgrading it is I would be basically buying a new computer, and I don't have the money for that right now. Thank you for your suggestions though

How do I tell if it is Throttling? sorry I'm not very knowledgeable about this stuff

Download GPU-Z, open the sensor tab while playing games. Check the graph what is your card core clock and temperature while gaming.

No problem, what xAcid9 is saying is that your graphics card may be getting too hot (above optimal/functional limit), therefore, the graphics card compensates for the heat and turns down the performance.   In simple terms...

I have left GPU-Z open while I played a couple of different games (Overwatch, Ark, CSGO) and the temperatures are as follows

Highest:64.1C

Average:50.2C

Lowest:35C

this includes idle time and just general web browsing

One thing I did notice was that the hit to performance only occurs after my ark randomly crashes, otherwise it performs acceptably. After it does crash, something like CSGO causes 90%+ gpu load
