Gigabyte K7 Or Asus Crosshair VI Hero I am new to custom PCs but I have built them before I am just worried about bricking the motherboard with a BIOS update if bricking is a thing so I dont know whether to get the gigabyte which has a dual bios or Asus which doesn't.

or strix if u want something cheaper.

Price doesn't matter to me its just bricking it I am worried about. It is just one of those things where I know it probably wont happen nut just in case. Is it possible to unbrick motherboards without sending them back?

Bricking a mobo is permanent, but unless you turn the power off or unplug anything whilst it updates (which takes about 2 minutes to update btw) it is really unlikely that anything should happen

the asus HERO has bios flashback which you should use straight away.

it lets you update the bios with a USB, PSU, mobo. nothing else required.

Its the safest way to get off the early unstable bioses.

HERO.

BTW Ryzen 7 1700 can overclock to 1800X speeds really easily.

Snip

K7 has a dual BIOS feature so if you brick something, you can always flick a switch to the other BIOS and be fine (and likely be able to repair the first BIOS from there)

CH6 has a BIOS reset and/or BIOS update feature which allows you to update and/or reset your BIOS without having to actually get into the motherboard (I believe they call this "Q-Flash", and just requires a USB stick, the motherboard, and power to the motherboard, no other hardware required), so bricking one due to a BIOS issue is next to impossible.

So if your only concern is BIOS bricking, both of these boards would be quite resistant to that problem.

the CH6 is still the superior board IMO, but you don't need to feel like you are running the risk of choosing the "wrong" one. they're both great boards from good companies. Honestly if you can't find any features on paper which sway you one direction or the other (such as multiple M.2 on the K7 or on board USB 3.1 header on the CH6, or other distinctions like that) then just pick whichever board looks the best to you and call it a day.
