I recently purchased a 4770k for 200$ :0 I know right.

Anyway I'll be putting it in my system in early December ( once I get a mobo ) and I was wondering what an average overclock on an average chip would be with a H100i with noctuas in push/pull.

4.2ghz to around 4.4ghz normally. Most pc builders clock the cpu's around that speed although they can reach around 4.6ghz

If you can achieve 4.9ghz with less than 1.3volts its a very good cpu. However please overclock in steps/stages. Your warranty will be void if you push it to far, as well as making keeping the volts to a minimum make sure the heat output doesn't keep having a thermal throttling.

It is really variable. You'd typically be looking at 4.3 to 4.5GHz at below 1.25 to 1.3V, but if you're not unlucky, you could achieve that at lower voltages, and if you're really lucky, you could even reach 4.6 to 4.7GHz on an H100i (but that is rare).

Desktop: Intel Core i7-5820K, Corsair H115i, Asus X99-Deluxe/USB 3.1, G.Skill Ripjaws4 32GB 2800MHz CL16, Zotac RTX 3070, Samsung 950 Pro 512GB in Angelbird Wings PX1, Samsung 850 EVO 1TB, 5*Seagate 12TB, Cooler Master V1200, Phanteks Enthoo Luxe, Windows 10 Pro. I hit 4.6GHZ on 3570k first try on overclocking. I soon went back to stock but i didn't have any stability issues.

It's not like the beautiful sandy bridge then huh:(

I realize it performs better but still.

i hit 4.2GHz with 1.11v,

I dont think its worth running at 4.6GHz or something with a higher V, performance difference will be minimal

I'll be sure to be careful. I'll most likely search the forums or post a thread for good ways to efficiently do it as well as look at linus's guide

Your warranty is voided regardless of how far you modify your Intel CPU.

True but that makes the manufacturer sound quite silly, to enable their own products to be overclocked 'if they want to in the hands of the target audience. Maybe they should've gone with marketing more cores+threads killing off the ability to increase performance like they did on the xeons for socket 2011

How many of you guys actually killed an intel chip and sent it back for rma?

I have , my rma was accepted no problem and I received a new 4770k under the standard 3 year warranty.

Killing an intel chip with extreme voltage or heat will Not void your warranty. They only thing they will reject is a chip physically damaged.

Since intels quarterly profit margin is healthy I didnt feel bad about providing as little info as possible.

Chip wont post.. enough said

4.4-4.6ghz is average overclock for 4770k with a decent cooler
