I want to be either a computer software engineer or hardware. But, what schools in the US& Canada do you guys think are the best? (Not MIT, Stanford,  Princeton, or anything institute of tech school).

Also, what schools have you guys gone to and what major? And if it applies, what was your first job in that field/first job in general?

That's when you rent an appartment

Thats when you need a full time job to pay for everything and dont get enough time to study :|

bingo , I already spend over half my wage a week on rent and bills - if i moved closer i would have to pay more rent

and dont say get another job closer - there isnt any

Its all about those volumetric clouds

If you aren't enthusiastic and motivated about studying then travelling distance becomes tedious quickly, more so if you don't have many hours of class on some days. Going to the closest school will probably give you the best marks and be less stressful. I don't know how it is in the states, but here which school you go to isn't hugely important, having the degree (even without the best marks) gets your foot in the door, more likely to be considered, but it's experience that employers really want. Look at graduate jobs and go about making sure you can tick off all the criteria before you finish the degree. Get experience while you complete the degree, maybe volunteer or try for entry level positions with companies that do work in areas that you're interested in. It'll mean you're considered before external applicants that have similar experience and training and possibly some that are more qualified.

Wish this was drilled into me before I finished my degree.
