Hello!

As you already may have guessed I want to ask for some advice regarding a cpu upgrade.

This is my system's specs:

CPU: AMD FX 8320 OC @4.2 Ghz

Cooler: CM Hyper 212 EVO

Motherboard: ASUS M5A99X EVO R2

RAM: 16GB ADATA 1600 99924 1.5V

GPU: ASUS GTX 970 BLACK @1315 MHz

PSU: CM Silent Pro 600 W 80+ Bronze cerified

Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2

Monitor 1: 1080p @60HZ

Monitor 2: 4kTV @60Hz

I use the computer mainly for gaming. Other tasks include web browsing, youtube, music, movies and very rarely some work (excell and 1 or 2 virtual machines in VMWare player).

Right now I am satisfied with the performance I get considering the price I paid for the cpu (around 80 euro) about 3 years ago.

I play all kinds of games - racing (Project Cars, Dirt 4), singleplayer and multiplayer FPS (Battlefield 4, Prey, Shadow Warrior 2, Deus Ex: Mankind Devided), third person open world (GTA 5, Just Case 3, Wither 3) and so on.

I play mainly on the monitor but some times when some friends come over I use the TV as main display. In any case the 970 is not capable of 4k gaming of any kind so I stick to 1080p for now with wet dreams of 4k native gaming in the future.

Most of the time I get good results with fps at 60 or above with some sacrifices like turn off AA, turn down shadows and post processing. But sometimes I got hiccups and stuttering in GTA5 and MASS EFFECT ANDROMEDA for example. I guess there is some bottlenecking going on but I have not done analysis with benchmarks and stuff. Maybe I am just imagining things of maybe the games are not optimized for AMD architecture or I just want the impossible from my system. Who knows... anyway.

Right now I have an offer for intel I7 4790k for around 250 eruos second hand.

The question is:

Do you think that I should jump on and buy the I7 or should I go for new Ryzen 5 1600/1600X system?

Right now Ryzen 5 1600 costs around the same as the used I7 - 250 euro.

Also considering the additional cost of new ram and cooler for Ryzen CPU as my current cooler is not exactly compatible (I can not find adapter plates) do you think it is good option?

After all do you think that the investment is worth it no matter what cpu I upgrade to?

I'd go for the ryzen system personally

I would go for the ryzen CPU, its better value then the i7. But if your happy with what you have why upgrade? I would wait as pc prices are all over that place at the moment.

Yeah probably the best thing to do is wait a little bit more before upgrading.

It's just that as I said I got an offer for used i7 4790k for a good price with some months of warranty (250 euro is very good compared to new i7 7700k is around 400-450 euro in Bulgaria) and also I will keep the ram. If I go with Ryzen I suppose I should go for a faster ram which is ridiculously expensive here.
