Sub $1,000 system including Monitor and Keyboard/Mouse combo. This will definitely provide adequate performance while leaving extensive room for upgrades down the road.

An easy change to save a few more bucks would be to reduce the RAM to 2x4GB sticks.

The goal is an all around family system that can be extended to a TV for media use as well.

I would change the SSD to SK Hynix SL308 120GB, but other than that i like this list!

Looks good. I agree on the PSU, you might knock it down to a 500W model and use the extra cash for a semi-modular supply (I believe the one you listed isn't modular). I also agree on the SSD change. I believe the SK Hynix 120gb has slightly faster speeds overall than the Kingston model you have, but I'm not sure.

Not that power supply. Get something like a Corsair CXM (Grey label) or one of the Seasonic Bronze units if you want something cheap.

Never, ever, ever cheap out on your PSU, kids. It's always a temptation to spend 30 bucks on it and splurge on a GPU, but a PSU can outlast multiple systems. A GPU can be obsolete much sooner. Additionally, if a bad PSU goes pop, there's always an elevated chance of losing the entire system.

It's a neat $1000 package, but don't skimp out on one of the most important bits.

A 1050ti can't really handle 1080p ultrawide, also there's some issues with ultrawide like streaming not working right and games not supporting the resolution.

the question is if saving a few bucks is worth it. many modern games eat 8gigs of ram for breakfast and don't even break a sweat.

you COULD save a few bucks on ram though.

going to anything above 8 can make a difference - going from "anything above 8" to full 16 not so much ... i started with 2x4GB and added another 2x2GB later for a total of 12GB - that really helped in the games i play.

I replaced the pieced-together set with a 4x4GB kit recently but didn't notice any change in performance.

agree.

the 1050ti also won't be able to hit 75fps in most games.

unless you plan to upgrade that GPU any time soon, you can save a few bucks on the monitor and buy a nice 60Hz 1920x1080 instead.
