Now that I have overclocked my FX 6300 to 4.0 "Gigahurtz" I get a CPU socket temp of 62C after Prime95ing for 15 mins even though my CPU reported temps are 50C on cpuid hw monitor.

I just want to know if my socket temps are fine !

happy overclocking

AMD is known for running hot and coping with it so there is nothing to worry about :) Only when you get in the 90s should you start to worry ;)

A SOCKET temp of 62 degrees is acceptable, not optimal but it'll work. A dangerous socket temp is in the upper 60s, so you should be okay where you are at. Just make sure the cpu cores don't get that hot :)

Also please ignore the people claiming safe 90*c temps, you're proc will die within minutes (your socket will start melting if it managed to get that hot)   Thermal limit for piledriver/bulldozer is 63ish degrees Celsius. I would hope it would shut down before then.

Not true. I have a workstation with a 8150 running on the stock cooler. It is usually pinned at 100% and runs at around 70C. Does not shut down or even throttle.

Got quoted by megadarkwood, was immediately prepared to be 1 upped lol. Really? My 8350 has throttled at 68ish*C Maybe they tweaked something between steppings?

I'm not sure, but my 8150 runs perfectly fine in the 70C-73C.

Come on, my laptop gets to 68C, I think a 8CORE desktop processor can get to 70C..

Yeah it's probably normal, AMDs have always been uber hot, so yeah...

AMD is known for running hot and coping with it so there is nothing to worry about :) Only when you get in the 90s should you start to worry ;)

That's completely wrong, AMD CPUs run significantly cooler on average and I do mean significantly cooler 30-40c cooler than their intel counterparts.

62c on the socket is completely fine, in fact very good, 50c on the cores is also really good, you can overclock your CPU even further.

I still live by the rules set back in the phenom ii days, you don't want the cores going higher than 63ish degrees Celsius. Sure maybe it can run at 70 degrees Celsius but it's probably not good for it.

Honestly, its fine, I say that the mid 70C is something to worry about but up to 73C is completely ok..
