Seagate Barracuda 1TB

I don't know the new model, but I had an older one which was pretty silent. 

Main System:

Anghammarad : Asrock Taichi x570, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @4900 MHz. 32 GB DDR4 3600, some NVME SSDs, Gainward Phoenix RTX 3070TI

 

System 2 "Igluna" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

System 3 "Inskah" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

 

On the Road: Acer Aspire 5 Model A515-51G-54FD, Intel Core i5 7200U, 8 GB DDR4 Ram, 120 GB SSD, 1 TB SSD, Intel CPU GFX and Nvidia MX 150, Full HD IPS display

 

Media System "Vio": Aorus Elite AX V2, Ryzen 7 5700X, 64 GB Ram DDR4 3200 Mushkin, 1 275 GB Crucial MX SSD, 1 tb Crucial MX500 SSD. IBM 5015 Megaraid, 4 Seagate Ironwolf 4TB HDD in raid 5, 4 WD RED 4 tb in another Raid 5, Gainward Phoenix GTX 1060

the barracuda was once known to be one of the worst fail rate hdds on the market as far as im aware, i would personally get a wd red although you dont need a nas one.

 

edit- barracuda is the fastest drive, look at wd blues too, same price as the seagate.

Before grabbing a 24/7 disc, if your machine get's shut down frequently, and you use spin down for your hdd when it's idling for some time, don't use NAS drives, this behavior kills them quite fast. They are made for 24/7 perma run. (WD Red, Firecuda etc.)

Our own and independent research on current hard drive series do not show significant differences in drive reliability. Nowadays objectively all major hard drive manufacturers are working hard to optimize performance as well as reliability with each new generation of drives. Obviously each physical drive will fail at some point - however, if the right drive type is used in each scenario, modern hard drives usually last much longer than their minimum life time expectancy. In regards to the OP's question we would like to add that the BarraCuda drive suggested is one of the newer drives from our current Guardian Series with decent feedback so far...

 

As already pointed out here, much more important than the decision on the brand is to pick the right drive for the right purpose:

there are roughly three main types of hard drives: Desktop & Gaming (current Seagate lineup: BarraCuda), NAS (current Seagate lineup: IronWolf), and Surveillance (current Seagate lineup: SkyHawk).

They all connect in the same way, but were engineered with different uses in mind. IronWolf drives are rated for 24x7 use and optimized for NAS enclosures and extra vibration protection, so they have a lot of firmware optimizations and extras that make them costly for your typical desktop user or gamer.

 

Since you did not mention running the new drive(s) in a NAS environment we recommend going with either a BarraCuda or our Solid-State Hybrid drive, the FireCuda for your standard PC and gaming needs.
