Microphone not working on PC?

So my microphone was working completely fine yesterday and without restarting or doing anything to my computer (all i did was unplug my headphones) now they can't work. They work completely fine with my PS4 and my phone, but my laptop requires a y splitter. I have two of them. The one I have always used didn't seem to work so i replaced it with a brand new one that I had lying around and it also refused to work. Audio works completely fine, it sounds great. but the microphone just won't work. Windows does recognize it and I can get the microphone to "make noises" by putting it practically in my mouth (but of course it sounds unholy to my friends, i need a mic not a torture device), but talking into it normally it simply refuses to work. I have absolutely no clue what the problem is. It's not something wrong with the headset clearly if it works fine plugged into my phone and ps4. either something is wrong with my Y splitter (which I doubt since I used two of them) or something is up with my PC software. Can someone help?

I have the same problem here. From what I've been reading with other posts it seems to be a windows problem but no one has found a solution yet.
