NVMe m.2 cooling solution

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

Plenty of people put heatsinks on their M.2 drives, that's fairly common.

Just make sure that the thermal tape you use has adhesives on both sides so your heatsinks don't wall off.

So I am going to be installing my CPU cooling loop here shortly back into my rig now that I have a new CPU Block. My problem is that with it, I will be losing significant airflow around my m.2 slot, thus increasing its temps most likely. I am looking at possibly ordering some aluminum heat sinks to put on the chips.

Has anyone attempted this previously? I have some Sekisui thermal tape already from years ago and some copper fins, but I dont really want the copper as it will clash with the system. This seems to be a very cheap solution. Also, with the new water cooling loop, I will be turning my 140mm rear exhaust and making it an intake and have all my exhaust through the top with my radiator, so this should increase air flow near the m.2 chip on my MSI Z170a Gaming M7 board. Thoughts, ideas? The NVMe drive in question is the intel 600p 512gb version.

oh yea, its double sided. I actually used it for a while to tape down my mousepad on a glass desk I use to have lol. Worked like a charm and was a pain in the ass to get off.

Snip

the intel 600p doesn't really get hot enough for most users to need to worry about heatsinks, even with minimal airflow... but yes, that solution would work just fine for you if you really wanted to go that way. As a plus, It may also help cover up the ugly green PCB on the card

Honestly, I cant really tell the color of the PCB looking through my case.

Probably, maybe, maybe not. 9$ for some cheap sinks isnt going to break the bank for me and 5 min to apply them onto the chip... again.. not going to kill me. SO I will err on the side of caution and do it. I have already ordered those sinks and will be here Thursday.
