So I finally found a stable overclock of 4.2 ghz and every game has gained performance besides gta v.  All other games have seen performance gains besides gta I don't get it.  In the city I'm still at around 35-40 fps and no studdering.   I can go to 4.3 but it is to unstable and requires voltages that are way out of my safe zone.

My CPU is almost on par with the i3 and I'm confused.  How much longer will my be viable to play aaa games because I'm thinking about a ryzen 5 1500x.

the problem is the game you're looking at is pretty cpu intensive and benefits immensely from modern processors (both ryzen and intels offerings) higher ipc.

this in addition to the cpu "bottleneck" that your cpu has on your graphics.

not only can your cpu not keep up with the frames from your card it cant keep up with this game engine either.

there might be more cpu sided settings in gta v to help alleviate some of the strain but i havent played gta v so i wouldnt know...

as for how long before you need to upgrade, it really depends how cpu intensive newer games will be.  with the i7 7700k ripping games a new one and ryzen offering cheap cores and decent ipc i cant imagine it getting any easier for your a10 in the next year. youll be able to play games but youll have to compromise. how much you want to compromise is up to you.
