I am planning on building a PC. It will primarily be used for gaming but I also do a lot of programming. Here is what I have so far for my core components:
CPU: Intel Core i7-7820x
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080Ti

SSD: Samsung 960 Pro M.2 SSD

RAM: G. SKILL Trident Z DDR4 3200 C14 4x16GB

Motherboard: ASUS Prime X299-Deluxe

I am relatively new to the custom PC world, so it would be nice if you could tear this build apart. I do not have a budget but I would like to get my money's worth and if a component is a waste of money, then I wouldn't mind swapping it out. Please tell me if this build is good, bad, or a waste of money. Is a component too excessive for the build or is there a better option for one of the components? Are there any compatibility issues?

Just worried about the internals right now so I haven't chosen a monitor yet but definitely something that can handle 4k. Do you have any suggestions?

Also, sorry I guess I just prefer the blue team. Was not aware of the heat issues though. I would like to start purchasing parts in the next couple weeks. Not sure how long of a wait itll be for a new series of mobos tho.

Thanks for the link. Good to know but I was planning on doing liquid cooling so hopefully it won't be that big of a problem....????? o.O *fingers crossed*?? lol. thoughts?

that wil not help much:

"The first issue is that at least some X299 boards are only shipping with a single 8-pin power connector for the CPU. An overclocked Skylake-X pushing above 4.5GHz can pull more than 300W. According to his tests, the 8-pin cable temperature on his open testbed is hitting 65C in an air conditioned room"

unless you are cooling the 8 pin cpu power cable. 65°C is something I def. don't feel comfortable with on a component that can't be cooled conventionally. Lets face it, the whole x299 platform is one big design failure in pretty much every aspect.

my 2 cents

hmm....i guess i should avoid skimming articles then huh? lol. So should I wait for a new series of mobos or should i just go for an i7 7700k?

well when building today I would for sure. I might consider ryzen though depending on your needs. since gaming seems to be prio#1 I would prob. go with team blue since they get higher single core speeds which many games still benefit from today and years to come till engine programers finally decide to get their head out of their own a****.

and since you plan to go top end with 4K display a decently fast CPU is sort of mandatory to avoid CPU bottlenecks.

The 7700k would be fine for even gaming at 4k, but would be a considerable step down in terms of any productivity and multitasking as compared to the 7820x. In this situation I would suggest doing a good amount of research on that VRM issue to see if you can get a board that isn't affected or at least not as much, wait, or seriously reconsider Ryzen. I know I'm beating a dead horse, but the 8 core Ryzen CPU's are much more comparable to the 7820x than the 7700k.
