Hey guys,

So today I'm headed out to the store to finally buy my parts for the new rig I've been planning.

Here's the build:

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/pg6HFd

I need some advice, since this is the first PC I'm building completely on my own.

First off, is everything compatible/ does everything make sense?

Secondly, if you could save me some money by swapping out parts, without tanking my performance - let me know.  I'm trying to get it down to $1500 CAD, although that might not be possible.  But I am buying everything in person from Canada Computers so the prices you see online may vary.

Thirdly, what are some of the tools I'm going to need to build this myself today?

Let me know!   ...and don't be surprised if you see me in a panic later tonight on the forums.  xD

I would pick a more powerful air cooler since this one isn't "cool" enough  bad pun

I'd also check on prices for Supernova G2 650W. 550W is enough for your system, but if the 650W one doesn't cost much more then it makes more sense to get larger capacity.

Canada Computers will usually price match if you are buying an entire system from them. So use ca.pcpartpicker.com to price things out by merchant and take that with you.

I would suggest less expensive memory. For a mostly gaming and general use Intel system DDR4-2400 CL 14 or 15 is a good choice. There are few games that benefit from higher memory speeds. http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_311_1326&item_id=086270 is on sale and looks pretty good. While not a well known brand Mushkin quality is right up with the major brands. http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_311_1326&item_id=086323 would be a decent choice.

Get a larger ssd. 120GB isn't really enough for a system drive.

Looks good, one way to make it significantly cheaper, is replacing the i7 with an R5 1600 and a 90$ compatible B350 motherboard.

Thank you all for your replies, I finally took the plunge and bought it.  Taking some of your advice, and some from the guy at the store.  Although I did upgrade some things, making it a little more expensive.

Here's what I bought. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/ShadowDeity/saved/7fchMp

Once again, thanks guys.  Great to be back in the game.
