Transfer emails from outlook to gmail?

Hey, I'm looking to transfer some (not all) of my e-mails from my outlook (hotmail account) to my new g-mail, just so I have an archive of them.  How is this done without having to forward them all?  I heard there are services that do this, but you have to pay, is there a free way, if not what services can I use?

What way do you have of distinguishing between the emails you want to send and don't?

Well I have folders of the emails I need

Forwarding is best if you can mass select emails to send. Other way would be downloading all and storing them locally.
