I used to be biased towards Intel, but after doing my research, Ryzen is a solid, affordable platform. They're more focused for PCs that need multiple cores for heavy work like editing, rendering etc. However, if you have a budget like that, and you mostly want to game, I'd go with a Pentium G4560 / i3-7100, paired with a GTX 1050 / GTX 1050 Ti. Not sure if you want the CPU for an upgrade or for a full build, but if it's a full build, cheap out on everything else except the PSU. I'd recommend an eVGA SuperNOVA G2 550W.
