I'm new to PC and def new to overclocking.  I got a 7700k with an Asus z270h mobo and 32GB of 3200 RAM.  Also a h100i v2 water cooler.  I was FINALLY able to get the PC OCd to 4.8 and the RAM to 2933(?) or so.  I can't seem to get it any higher without the computer not posting.

Anybody out there with a similar setup that can give me info on their settings for better oc?

Also, I did a 3dMark tests and before OC and got I think an 8600 overall score.  After  the OC above, I got like 8800.  Is this typical?

Thanks!

Did you up the voltage?

There are presets for the mobo that I used.  Overclock 1 and Overclock 2.  I'm too ignorant to be changing the voltages myself at the moment.

Oh, you really should do a manual overclock. The majority of 7700Ks hit 5ghz no problem

4.8 isnt a bad oc by any means, did you want to push 4.9? i wouldnt seeing as 7700k's run hot anywho

but if you must, what voltages are you running at?

I believe at 4.8 it runs idle around 45 celsius.  It should go over like 80, right?

Idle temperatures is not a major issue to be looking at.

The LOAD (e.g. 100% load across ALL cores and threads) temperatures is the most important one.

Typically, you want to keep it below ~85*C under load.

Skylake and Kabylake can handle more voltage compared to Haswell and Devil's Canyon.

It can easily handle 1.35V ~ 1.4V without much issues.

THAT SAID, since you are completely new to overclocking, stay within the 1.3V ~ 1.35V range to be 110% safe.

Move up beyond that when you feel comfortable, and you start to know the in's and out's of your BIOS, and overclocking.
