Overclocking FX-8150

Hello,

 

I have been messing around with my friends fx-8150 , we got stable at 4.5 ghz and 1.452 voltage (vcore).

We reached a max temp of 61^oC, we decided to take it one tick higher at 4.6 ghz.

Same voltage and all, but now at 4.6 ghz, after 2 min of stress testing with "AIDA64 EXTREME" we got a hardware failure, temps only got to 59^oC and nothing crashed.

We suspect that it is the bus speed (200mhz), but we are unable to change it bus speed in bios.

 

Specs:

Video Card: Radeon (TM) RX 480 Graphics (8gb) (Clocked speed is 1350 mhz with memory on 2200)

Processor: AMD FX(tm)-8150 Eight-Core Processor (4.5 ghz 1.452 voltage)

Motherboard: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3

RAM: 2x Kingston HyperX Gen DDR3-1866 4 GB (Both are running at 1866)

You've reached the max voltage for that level but DONT go any further with that voltage

Is there an update available? Temps don't seem to be a problem, so I'm assuming it's something else.

We just checked.

We are using the newest drivers.

What PSU do you have?

The only way for me to know is by opening the backside of my case, but the cables are a mess there.

But is 750 W, I do not think that the issue is there.

The think is, we get nowhere near the temps described.

And we are using 4 120 mm fans and a water cooler.

Corsair h40 water cooler.

VRM temps? Or CPU temps? Other than faulty hardware, I don't see any reason for it not to go higher. What speeds should you be getting at that voltage?

That can simply be insufficient vcore at load, or insufficient CPU-NB voltage to keep the CPU stable and run the RAM sticks at 1866.
