Hey guys,

I've been watching Linus and Jayz videos for a while now and I'm preparing myself to build a new rig in a few months, so I thought I will join the community and get some proper answers. So here goes...

My last two rigs had Noctua D14 cooler with two 14cm fans on it. It worked wonderfully and silently! My last two cases were Fractal Design R2 and R4 and they were super good to work in and silent. I think the theme is clear here - performance under silence. Most of my questions rise from what case I should use and cooling. My planned rig is M2 SSD, one HDD, GTX 1080 Ti and an i7-7700K (or, if Intel rumors are correct and they launch new platform this quarter or early next, I will pick i7 from that new lineup). Maybe get my hands on a 6 core, don't know yet. I'm software engineer, need the processing. Most likely I will overclock as I always did.

Technology has come a long way since last time I built something and I did reuse a lot of things from first rig I had.

For cooling, I saw reviews of this awesome cooling solution from EK, Fluid Gaming A240G to be precise. It should do the job here. I assume I would top mount the radiator and should have 2-3 intake fans with additional back exhaust fan.

My main question, having everything mentioned in mind - what case would you recommend with performance and silence in mind. I can tolerate some noise while gaming, heck, I have 980Ti now and it's rather loud, but while working should be dead silent. Temperature throttling is not an option, so I that is first priority of course.

So let's say I pick case X. Case X comes with N number of crappy X fans and I assume those have to be replaced. What are the best fans for silent work? If the case has a screen or fans are visible, I wouldn't want to go with Noctua again because of their stubborn design trend that's not viable anymore. From what I read and watch, RGB is a theme here, my logitech mouse and keyboard even has that, but I'm fine to skin that alltogether on my rig, black is totally fine, but if I go for it, then go all the way - RGB ram, RGB fans, RGB strips in case.

Since this is a PSU and Case thread, what silent PSU would you recommend? I'm eyeing a fully modular EVGA SuperNOVA P2 750W. Big fan, should be silent enough and it's a top tier PSU. If I even find a need to run a few 4K monitors (currently I have 2 x 1440p), I might get another Ti and 750 should be able to deal with that.

Any suggestions to point me to right direction or criticism about my train of thought are greatly welcome!

P.S. Oh, and an important note - I am based in Europe, but I do have access to most of European Amazon items, but In some rare cases, they don't ship to my country.

That eVGA SuperNOVA 750W is good. As for the case, I'd recommend this.

Could you elaborate on the case for why it would be a good fit?

I forgot something else really important. With USB-C all over current phones, I'd like to have one in front panel of the case.

Oh, in that case (heh, case), the Masterbox Lite 5 might not work for you. Are you looking for something full-tower or mid-tower?

Might I recommend swapping that 7700K out for a Ryzen 7 1700? It has 6 cores, 12 threads, and is cheaper than the 7700K. Base clock 3.0GHz, can easily be overclocked further.

How about this?

This looks promising! But I believe I should always run it with front cover off? I assume top cover has metal mesh with some cover that can be removed to give airflow, which is good and it has USB-C!

Oh the psychological pressure to switch, the pain!

I was thinking about this, but I might just wait out Intel response, need to see the leap frog competition in action, since I'm in no hurry.
