So i've gotten ~6 crashes in 2-3 months (very close together with long intervals between sets), all with the CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT error. Slight digging around the net hasn't been too helpful, ranging from bad drivers to undervolted CPU to, worst case scenario, a faulty CPU. I can provide a .dmp file on request, but it's 1.1gb so you'll need to tell me somewhere to upload it. Interestingly, this crash has only ever happened when I'm playing EVE online, though i'm not sure if thats just coincidence or an actual part of the problem.

 

Specs

 

i7 7700K running at stock speeds. I had it running on a mild OC at first, reset it to defaults after a few crashes, hasn't seemed to help.

EVGA SC 1070, Driver ver 22.21.13.8253. Updated this to the newest version from nvidia's website, was originally running a slightly older version due to some terrible issues.

Antec edge 750w PSU

Aorus K7 z270 MB

212 evo, if that matters at all. temps are fine across the board.

256gb crucial SSD

some 2tb WD hdd, shouldn't really matter.

 

I *really* don't want to have to RMA my processor, but if it comes down to it, I will...that seems highly unlikely though. I've checked that the CPU is seated properly and that no pins are bent, so I'm really hoping this is some kind of software problem.

Run memtest86 or extended windows memory diagnostic. This error can happen with bad ram.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

I have this error from time to time on my dell xps 15 laptop. No idea what causes it. Seems like a software problem. Maybe a Windows 10 issue?
