ryzen 1800x 4.0ghz
gtx 1080ti FE

my steam library i also quite sizeable 800+ games.

what i want to do is stream my steam games to my "samsung hd 50inch 1080p smart tv" for my children  how ever the steam link just seams to be a remote desktop mirroring

is there ANY way i can get my steam games to stream to my tv whilst i use said pc i was thinking running a VM on my pc for it would this work, if so how would i go about doing it as this is new levels of tech for myself

Nope, that's not how Steam's In-Home streaming works, it literally is just passing the audio and video to the steam box just like you're streaming to Twitch.

Saadly there is not. Steam link does like a remote desktop connectio0. So the streamd game HAS to be on screen on the PC.

VM will allso not work, because steam link is also giving input signals to the PC youre streaming to.

So even Virtual machines will not work.

-Game has to be on top

- You cant do inputs from your PC for the other stuff

Only solution i see is getting unraid and running 2x Windows with real VMs.

But this is not really well implemented at the moment in the ryzen plaform

FOLDING MONTH 2021! GOGOGO and save on some heating costs 🙂

You would need to have 3 video cards, one for the hypervisor (i.e. UnRAID), one for your gaming VM, and one for your VM that you'd like to do work on. If your motherboard has an IGP then you can get away with just 2 video cards then (one can be something like a $35 GT 710 if all you need is to run desktop software).

That's what I plan on doing when mine arrives. I have an old HP laptop that is great for the LEGO games my kid plays so I get to keep my computers all to myself. :D

i just think its a waste of my steam library when im not using it considering there is so many game in the library and all im doing now is working on my pc and playing WOW, so i was trying to find a way of letting them have access to my library without getting their grubby mitts on my tech, i love them but not that much

You can setup family sharing, that's what I'm using on the HP laptop. They have their own login to Steam and can access most of my games as long as I'm not playing them.

EDIT: I would explain how to set it up but it was super confusing for me and it took me a lot of trial and error to actually get it working.

no family sharing isnt the problem its just that all pc's and laptops are £1200 plus in the house and dont really want a 7 year old on it so it was a case of trying to get the performance out of them without them actually touching the tech hence the streaming
