Windows 10 slow internet speeds

Integer93

Hey guys,

since a few days the internet speed of my pc are just terrible. The Download speeds are limited to exactly 2 Mbit/s, upload speeds are normal.

The strange thing is, when i download stuff from my local server i get the full bandwith of 100 MBit/s.

The problem first appeared when i downloaded the windows 10 creators update. I dont know if thats the cause or just a coincidence, but it was already limited while i downloaded the update.

And to be clear: There is nothing running in the background and i get the full internet speed on other devices. I am using ethernet to my router (Nighthawk R7000) and from there to the ISP router (in bridge mode).

What i have already tried:

  • restarted the pc and router
  • used different DNS servers
  • driver update
  • windows network reset
  • installed the driver directly from the motherboard manufacturer (wasnt even working)
  • bios update
  • disabled windows tcp autotuninglevel
  • disabled windows quality of service

Does anyone have another idea what i could try?

What speed do you pay for?

What are you testing with?

Have you run a speedtest from speedtest.net?

I'm paying for 100 Mbits.

I get constantly 2 Mbits with everything. SpeedOf.Me, speedtest.net, Youtube, Steam and Windows Update.

And like i said, im getting my full internet bandwith with other devices on the network.

My suggestion is to run a ping test to something like google.com, see if there are any packet losses

Alright, must have misread that. I thought you were getting the full bandwidth with device to device on the local network transfers.

Try opening command prompt and flushing your DNS cache with

ipconfig /flushdns

I don't think it will have any impact but just to be sure :)

This is very weird, have you called your ISP to see if there is a problem in your area?

Thats true. I get the full bandwith from device to device on my local and with other devices to the internet.

PC <--Ethernet--> Local Server : 100 MBits

PC <--Ethernet--> Internet         : 2 Mbits

Tablet <--WiFi--> Internet    : 100 MBits

Phone <--WiFi--> Internet   : 100 Mbits

WiFi and ethernet both use the same router.

dns flush didnt work :/

Hmmm, do you have another cable to try with? It's a long shot though.

Another thing to try is maybe if you have a wifi card in the PC, use that and see?

I found the solution.

It seams that my router had some weird configurations. I did a factory reset on it an now everything works fine.
