I have a Asus MX239H that goes black for a sec as if the driver was being updated. This happens randomly and quite frequently which is annoying. Switching on and off high power devices (vacuum, neon lights) will cause it to flicker and it doesn't happen with DVI to HDMI cables only with HDMI to HDMI cables. That's weird but it's not the PC nor the monitor. Bad cables maybe ?

HDMI can be full of crap sometimes too

To test if it is the cable, just pick a new one. It could be the HDMI connector on either side rather than the cable, but the wire it's much more likely to cause the problem. I had the same thing in the past, and it was fixed by replacing the HDMI cable.

I have occational tearing on my Displayport and very new Asus Monitor. Also a very new 1070..

Do you have G-Sync on your monitor? Tearing happens when your GPU pushes way more frames than your monitor can refresh which not uncommon for a 1070

Pretty sure it's cable yeah but I tried 2 crappy ones, I think it's electrical since the screen tend to flicker less when the HDMI cable isn't bundled with the power cable
