PC games freezing

Hey guys,

 

I recently bought some games from the steam sale, and have been enjoying the start of my summer holidays from school with a little bit of gaming. However its happened three times (in my last three gaming sessions) that about an hour or two in, the game freezes, goes unresponsive and I have to Ctrl+Alt+Del to get outta there. Does anyone know the root cause of this issue, and or how to fix it? 

 

My specs are 1070 strix, 6700k, 8gb ram, games are running off HDD. Running the games at 3440 x 1440 at 75hz. All components are at stock speeds. 

 

Specific games it happened in were Ghost Recon WIldlands, and Just Cause 3.

Restart the computer if you haven't already.

 

Maybe check drivers? Is there any overheating and causes the thing to stop?

System resources that like to hog stuff is a possibility.
