Memory questions

Dual channel gives de CPU the option of doubling the throughput, so yes, double channel memory will give more performance.. I'm wondering if I'm losing a lot of performance for just using one stick. You are loosing 50% of RAM throughput, which may or may not impact your specific workload. Since RAM is so cheap, it's better to have dual channel. I didn't think about it at the time as I bought my memory for $42. The memory that I bought was OEM which is why I think it was cheap. So if I were to upgrade to 16gb would it be fine if I bought a 8gb stick that was not OEM but from like corsair and they would run together fine or would it have to be the same exact oem stick. Usually the motherboard will configure both sticks to function at dual channel even if one of them is faster, it will try to equalize both at same speed so they function in junction as dual channel. But your mileage may vary. Also another question I don't know what slot I should put my memory in since it is only one. I checked the manual but couldn't seem to find it. Page 15 of the English version manual. Just checked. It explains how to populate the motherboard in single and dual channel configurations. I have a ASRock h170m pro4 mATX board if anyone could help with that. Thanks in advance and sorry for so many questions. Cheers!
