I've finally got around to overclocking my 660ti, I'm still pretty new at the whole overclocking thing so i was wondering if it would be a good or bad idea for me to revert to my default clock value when I'm not gaming. I'm thinking this would reduce the stress the gpu and the power consumption when it's virtually idle and the overclock isn't needed or if it's just a bad thing to do switching back and forth better overclocked and default clocked settings. Any other ideas would be appreciated as well

are you using afterburner or GPU tweak, if so, you can check your power consumption and it shouldn't be any higher at idle when you overclock it and the difference would be minor if any so it's not worth the trouble.

Reducing the stress on a gpu isn't a big deal either, (graphics card are made to be used all day for long gaming sessions and everything) it should last as long as you don't just crap on it with brutal processes all day everyday.

The GPU automatically downclocks when it is in not being used. Max clocks are only hit when the GPU is under heavy load.
