Upgrading RAM Problem :(

I just upgraded my ram to 3gb to 4gb. This computer is about 5 years old. I just had 4gb in no use, so I tried to upgrade. The problem is that windows 8 doesn't recognize that i put more ram in. So how do i make windows recognize that i added more RAM.

what RAM did you get? Do you have 2x2 sticks or 1x4 stick?

It was 4 sticks of ram and my specs are Amd phenom 8400, 500gb hard drive thats i know

If you are running a 32 bit OS then your ram amount will read as 3 GB and change. You'll need a 64 bit OS install to see a full 4 GB and beyond.
