I currently have a 60hz monitor and I want to upgrade to a 144hz monitor.  My only issue is I get around 70 - 130 fps in csgo/tf2 with my current PC.  I figure I need to upgrade my specs to  get 144hz. I don't know whether CPUs or GPUs affect FPS more or it is balanced between both.

Current Specs

CPU Intel - Core i5-6400 2.7GHz Quad-Core Processor

GPU MSI - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB

GPU must be from Nvidia because I use Shadowplay and plan on keeping it that way.

any specific model that you recommend?

EVGA GTX 1060 SC. get the 3GB model if you don't want to spend more than $200 and the 6GB model if you are willing to pay an extra $50. Note that the 6GB model is faster than the gimped out 3GB model, but don't mistake the 3GB model for a slouch because it ain't either.

Oh well just turn down the settings or like @glitchmaster0001 said get a 1060>I don't know too much about CS:GO but It think a cpu upgrade would be better if that's the only game you play

That looks like exactly what I need!  Thank you for the quick and direct response.

nah the source 2 engine would run fine on a skylake i5, the 1050ti isn't a very powerful card so upgrading to a beefier card will yield higher frame rates.

Cs:go is really cpu intensive right. That i5 isn't really good but your right a GPU upgrade would eb more beneficial in a lot more areas

yes, but a skylake i5 is still very recent, and has very potent IPC. my old X58 xeon setup ran CSGO with 200 FPS on maxed out settings when paired with a good GPU. and X58 is almost 10 years old now. So you can guess that it's very outdated in terms of IPC.
