So my friend has these 12 core opterons and we're thinking of doing a 4 socket motherboard and do some CPU mining, I found some programs but was wondering if they where safe, are there any other ones that are better and I think coinbeez went out of business not sure though

I can never recommend using a CPU to mine cryptocurrency. It doesn't matter if you have a top of the line Xeon. The amount you earn and the amount it costs to run that electricity is terrible. 

 

If you really want to do it, here's a miner for Zcash on Windows: https://github.com/etherchain-org/nheqminer/releases/tag/0.3a

There's instructions on the main developer page for Linux.
