Upgrade CPU?

I don't know why ivy bridge i7s are still so expensive but here in Canada when I look on eBay and Craigslist it's always around $300+ to get a 3770K.

I found a local 3770 (non K) for $200 CAD and I can probably get him to lower it a bit, but would it be worth it to go from a 3570K OC'd @ 4.4ghz to a 3770 (non K) for gaming or should I just go for the expensive 3770K? I know this probably depends on the game but I figure if I can get an ivy i7 then my system will stay semi-relevant a little longer before having to upgrade my CPU, MOBO and RAM (DDR4).

Thoughts?

you do know that the 3570k and the 3770 as well as the 3770k are ivy bridge CPUs ?

I'd nab the locked CPU

read the quote i posted.

he says "if i had an ivy i7... " - but earlier on he asked if it is worth to go from a 3750k to a 3770 ... so i assumed he already has the 3750k in his system right now ... that means he already has and ivy i7

If 3770k is too expensive then go for locked 3770. You will need to overclock the 3570k a lot to match 3770's performance because of the lack of hyper-threading

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

Do some searching (or just look at his signature) and you'll find that 3570k is an i5, and there's no 3750k.

I think he knows that he has an ivy i5 and he's searching for a cpu upgrade to an ivy bridge i7 to keep his system relevant

yeah ... i guess i missed that tiny little detail ... it's an i5 ... i must have flipped the numbers in my head reading 3750 instead of 3570 ... a 3750 is not even existing .. right ?

... shame on me ...

anyways ... the i7 3770 kicks ass and is far from obsolete ...

and now i better get some sleep ... brain is obviously not working reliably any more

Thanks to everyone for the reply's.

I got him to agree to $150 CAD down from $200 for the non-k 3770 making it hard to justify spending $300 for the K version unless, how much of a difference would an OC make in CPU bound games like Total War Warhammer? Should I just get the non-K?

hey ... you can get the locked i7 for half of the unlocked ... i'd say that is a good deal.

i mean, sure, the non k is locket at what ? 3.4 GHz + boost? and the K might be able to go higher than the non Ks boost clock but i don't know if the additional performance justifies spending that much more ... maybe someone else has more experience on that ??? anyone ???

besides that ... you already haggled him down ... i might just be too soft but i would feel like a bad person haggling 50 bucks out of someone and then cancel the deal.

the other way around: if i was the seller, i'd be pissed if someone did that to me :P

WOW yes get the non K.  My bro plays TWW with a 4790k at stock (3.5Ghz) and it runs like a charm.  The 3770 will run even better and its a steal at that price
