So, I have been having trouble migrating my os from a HHD to a SSD. As I have windows 7 with a oem key, I can not really do a clean install as I can't figure out the ISO's. I have gotten to my last choice of moving off all my stuff onto another drive then deleting it on the drive that has the OS, the problem comes in when i'm a cheap ass and only got a 120gb ssd... I had around 400gb of data including steam games, videos, photos, ect, I have moved all of my videos and photos to an external drive and deleted all of my steam games with no content left on my computer but I still have 168gb (compressed files selected) of data on the drive and I need to get it around 110gb. I have no idea where the 168gb of data is. Can some one suggest where I could look to delete some things to get it down to 110gb.

Thanks, MJ

you can look up what kind of win 7 you use... Home, Pro, 32 bit, 64 bit, then get a tool which reads out your serial, yes there are some quite good ones for free.

Then just do a fresh setup on the SSD.

Main System:

Anghammarad : Asrock Taichi x570, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @4900 MHz. 32 GB DDR4 3600, some NVME SSDs, Gainward Phoenix RTX 3070TI

System 2 "Igluna" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

System 3 "Inskah" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

On the Road: Acer Aspire 5 Model A515-51G-54FD, Intel Core i5 7200U, 8 GB DDR4 Ram, 120 GB SSD, 1 TB SSD, Intel CPU GFX and Nvidia MX 150, Full HD IPS display

If you install the official one of the version you had before, it should activate automatically. If not, then you'll have to use the automated phone service to activate.

Surely your key and windows version aren't the same thing? If it was Windows 7 Home before then installing Windows 7 Home again will work.

I would check your my documents folders, downloads folder and desktop for files that you can copy off your hdd or delete outright.  I always end up with about 20G of just stuff I had forgotten about.

Installing any OEM or Retail version of Windows 7 Home Edition (either x86 or x64) without a product key (or using a dummy product key) is fine as long as you activate it properly afterwards. The easiest way to do this is by using an elevated Administrator Command prompt. Open the start menu, type in "cmd", then right-click on the command prompt shortcut and run it as Admin.

Uninstall Product Key Command: slmgr.vbs /upk
Install Your OEM Key Command: slmgr.vbs /ipk XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

Activate Your OEM Key Online: slmgr.vbs /ato
Check Your License Status: slmgr.vbs /dlv

If installing your OEM product key (found on a sticker on the side of your computer case, or in the paperwork that came with your OEM PC) does not work using Activate Online, or you get an error message, then you'll need to perform phone activation of your Key. To do this follow the directions from Microsoft for Phone Activation. If needed, you can talk to a live agent on the phone this way too. Explain that you're simply reinstalling the OEM version of Windows that came with your computer, and need some assistance getting it activated.

Desktop: KiRaShi-Intel-2022 (i5-12600K, 5060 Ti) Mobile: Moto Razr 50 Ultra (Razr+ 2024) | 30GB CAN+US+MEX $30/month
Laptop: Lenovo Yoga 7i (16") 82UF0015US (i7-12700H, 16GB/2TB RAM/SSD, A370M GPU) Tablet: Lenovo Tab Plus (256GB)
Camera: Canon M6 Mark II | Canon Rebel T1i (500D) | Canon SX280 Music: Spotify Premium (CIRCA '08)
