Hey gang,

Recently I've been debating on switching to water cooling. I've noticed recently that my GPU tends to run a bit hotter than I would like when it comes to gaming. Typically when playing something like GTAV it starts to hit temps of 80+, and when playing Space Engineers it hit nearly 93. I found that it was designed to handle up to 95, but I'd rather not run that hot.

So I was hoping that maybe you guys could point me in the right direction with my set up, and with either option I have used the configurator in EKWB.

My computer specs is as follows:

  • Phanteks Enthoo Pro
  • Intel i5-6600k
  • Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
  • MSI Z170A SLI Plus
  • MSI Radeon R9 390
  • MSI Radeon R9 390 (crossfire)
  • G.Skill Ripjaws V Series (4x8)
  • Stock fans from Phanteks: 1x200mm front, 1x140mm rear
  • EVGA SuperNOVA 850 B2

Now mind you, I've never water cooled a machine before. I figured branch out, and open up my horizons, and get a little help along the way.

This loop is if I were to cool both GPU's

Personally i would spend that money on better components, as i would only water cool when you have top of the line products.

I currently have in the process of setting up a new build. It will take some time because I'm building it into a desk into my office.

So do you suggest just getting some extra fans to cool things down instead of switching to water cooling?

Yes that could be option but it wouldn't result in better temps but allow you to turn down overall fans RPM. I would hold off, until building your PC into your office desk and than water cooling could be an options but i would upgrade the CPU and GPU (maybe stronger single GPU, later when VEGA or new Nivida cards comes out).

Thanks a lot. The next build is going to be a lot more intense, and I knew that I would build it for water cooling. All about saving up and parting it all out.

Well do you have a suggestion for better temps? I dislike how warm these cards get when gaming, and they are most certainly not quiet.

Fuck water cooling. Rather get liquid nitrogen and problem solved.

Cooler ambient temperature always helps, open up the case while gaming?

Your issue is two hot af cards in a small case with tempered glass, it's effectively a green house. Water will help and you can carry the components over to your new build, loop looks good but it messed up, you need 2 fittings per item in loop -2 for the crossfire terminal so that's 10 (not 8) also get a drain valve

That's what I've resorted to doing! The machine runs well luckily. I have a small fan I keep clean, pop open the side panel and just blast it with air while gaming hard.

I keep my office pretty cool, and my dogs not allowed in here. I noticed the tempered glass getting warm to the touch when I play hard. I think as MrUnknown said to hold off. I may just do that. Get a few fans, and keep the case open on the side. Make this computer into something basic to use or give it to the future step son.

You can start getting fans for your radiators and use the fans into your case in the meantime.

in terms of cash, sell the 390s and get a 1080ti..... it'll run cooler, quieter and faster for same money, then get water cooling.

I have to agree. Water cooling my i7+gtx 1070 has cost just over $600. That's just one video card too. Fittings and such add up. (I admit, this is a more premium loop than some.)

Start by upgrading your video card and then revisit water cooling.
