Software Raid5 question

So for the sake of some redundancy I put my file server in raid5, but without a hardware raid controller. It's thus in software raid5 via windows server. 

I want to reinstall windows on that PC, and upgrade to server 2016 (now it's 2008). Can I disconnect the three hard drives, install windows server and hook them back up without losing the data on it?

 

I'm not sure if that will work.

if you want any kind of certainty, back up your data.

 

even if it means buying one of those shingled drives, back up your data.
