Please don't make this a massive argument or anything like that.

Scenario:
So I've been thinking and my dad offered me £240 (around it) for my RX480 in exchange for a 1060 on Amazon and was wondering if it was worth it.

I'm thinking off getting this one (if I do decide to take up on his offer): https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-GeForce-GTX-1060-ARMOR/dp/B01IPBC4WC/ref=sr_1_31?ie=UTF8&qid=1497197538&sr=8-31&keywords=gtx1060

I currently have the RX480 8GB Sapphire nitro +

Thoughts?

No. Sell it as for 'mining' and get £300+.

I asked him about it and he refused to let me sell it on eBay due to the fees and postage, and locked down a point that I wouldn't make "any profit out of it" anyway. So it's not an option (unfortunately)

Might work. Depends really. It's all up to you.

Yeah, been having problems with AMD's drivers as well as their recording software. When I had my GTX770 (2gb) I had it so much better than my AMD GPU.

The buyer pays postage but..

Craigslist/kijiji?

The 480 is about the same performance as a 6gb 1060, but the 480 you have has 2GB more VRAM.

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

From that post I can tell you're not much of a fan of AMD's software :P

The performance is similar, and if you can't turn it for a profit on eBay or CL then I would keep it. It performs better in DX12 titles generally, and there will continue to be more and more DX12 titles in the future. So, maybe a bit more future proof along with the fact that AMD generally keeps up with driver improvements longer than NVIDIA from my understanding.

True. You could sell it on Gumtree. (We don't have kijiji here unfortunately, and craigslist is rarely used)

From just that post alone I know you want that 1060 :P

Yeah, I'm pretty hyped for the GTX1060. To be fair it has took me weeks to find an actual driver that has got working. Took me too long to find a compatible driver than just having a one click installation.

Plus.. The overheating man.

That's why I prefer Nvidia cards.

Sure, driver updates are WAY too regular and you can't keep up, but still, could be worse.

Besides, if you want to get some more for the 480, you could sell it on Gumtree.

The 480 has nearly identical performance to a 1060 6GB, and it's got 2GB more VRAM than the aforementioned 1060.

Either keep it, sell on gumtree (if you can) or just give it to your dad.

Have you adjusted your fan curve/max rpm's? My XFX 480 was running pretty hot when I first got it (87c) but then after doing some research I found that the stock fan curve maxed out at a far too low speed, like 50%. So I upped my max fan power to about 70% and it was a worlds difference.

I fixed it by undervolting so the power was limited and so was the temperature. It's still running fine at maybe 60c currently, but my fans are running (50% normally) and it's irritating just to keep it stable, especially whilst undervolting. So... Yeah.

Still can achieve 1080p60fps with the card, just the fact that I had to use my free time of many weeks to find a workable driver and then undervolting using Trixx was annoying enough.

Sorry to hear that, I haven't had any issues with drivers. You're pulling the drivers right off AMD's website?

Many issues of the drivers on my end, such as the graphics card randomly losing connection due to the overheating (if I didn't have a workable UI via the driver, I couldn't devolt it/this was way before I knew TriXX existed) - Getting limited to 10fps in every game possible, and having 1920x1080 resolution which looked downscaled to around 800x600 resolution (as well as many other problems).

Yeah, I (was) trying to install Radeon Relive's drivers from the AMD site. It was until mid-way through 16.4 (iirc) that it finally got fixed.

Have you considered doing a RMA for the card?

No, I noticed people had similar problems in terms of overheating and lack of performance. It displayed my two monitors and that convinced me that it was working.

P.S Sounds like my dad just backed out of the deal. Sometimes I fucking hate him.

All the issues you're having with it probably scared him away. I'd RMA the card as soon as possible and go from there.

Haha probably. He says he doesn't understand why I want a side upgrade, I explained to him and he's like "why do you want a side upgrade tho"

It's working now since 16.4, but I wouldn't even want to RMA it at this point.
