Hello everyone,

I would like to ask your opinions on below symptoms, I suspect the problem is caused by the Case, Motherboard or the both but I will also consider any additional culprit you may think of.

1. Plugging into front USB ports of the computer case causes my computer to reboot/crash sometimes.

2. Static electric on my body has caused my computer to reboot/crash via the tip of the Apple Lightning cable which was plugged into a USB hub on my desk.

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1

Computer case: MasterCase Maker 5

Any idea how I can fix this issue will be appreciated greatly,

Thank you,

For the first issue you may have the USB connector plugged into the wrong port on the MOBO. If static electricity caused this you would not have the PC booting and you would know because where ever your body came into contact with the PC there would be a burning sensation.

Check over your front panel connectors and make sure they are on the correct MOBO connectors.

Hi @mcoskuntr

This is a fairly common issue. I'm willing to bet that you either wear loafers or slippers or that you have carpet in the room. Either way, some cases (and its not a specific brand or model) have little to no grounding for the front I/O panel, or is just not adequate enough. So what is happening is when you are hooking up your USB device it will short slightly, and because of how the cabling is done internally, the electronics are "sort of" using your reset switch cables as the ground... which means? You know it! the current goes all the way to the motherboard, and it thinks its being triggered for a reboot.

The end result is you going absolutely ape shit thinking you have a hardware failure. This is super common on real cheap budget cases from no name brands.

Open your case up if you feel like it and investigate what the grounding looks like for the front I/O port, you may be surprised.
