Just a question or two.  How big is your current HHD, and how big is the SSD?  Have you considered doing a "clean" install of Windoze?  Using the Windows Media Creation Tool would be the best option.

All you need is a 4gig flashdrive and once you download and get the flashdrive set up, all you have to do is boot from it. To make things easy, after you get your flashdrive set up, turn off the PC and disconnect the HHD ensure the SSD is the only storage device connected to the mobo.  The Tool will recogonize the SSD and install Windows.

After Windows install is complete, shut down the PC, hook up your HHD and all will be good.  You will need to reinstall your software/games but I'm sure you will be happy with the result.

Both my original HDD boot drive and my new SSD are 500gb, the HDD is about half full. So what happens to the old HDD when i do that, does windows just become unusable on it or does it whipe it somehow?

Here's some step-by-step guides by my OTHER favourite website, HowToGeek...

Eventually, my T400 Lenovo laptop will need an SSD so that I can keep it chugging along (as my work device).  Do preparation, and I think you'll be successful, Pebble713.  Good luck, eh.
