Compatibility information

I'll be changing my whole setup over the next few weeks, once the new i7 drops or enough information to choose between waiting or just go 7700k. Due to some inconsiderate so & so posting the EK a240 here yesterday making me want it but I can't find any information on compatibility with my board. It's a gigabyte - ga-78lmt-s2p, old I know but did what I wanted. Does anyone know if it will work with the a240 waterblock or do I have to change motherboard?

Don't quote me on this, but isn't waterblock compatibility rely on the socket type of the CPU?

I'm not sure, I was about to place the order when I seen a YouTube video by jaystwocents where he was fitting a waterblock and the motherboard didn't support it, so he drilled through the board and in the process killed it. Yeah drilling through your motherboard kills it who'd have guessed

The kit doesn't support AM3 socket out of the box.  I think you would need to buy a different backplate for it.

 

About what Jay did, don't take this as a general rule of thumb.  AsRock just didn't punch the PCB of this board underneat the socket mounting holes.  Most manufacturers do...

Cool good to know, I might just buy the kit and either get a bracket or if that fails just change the motherboard and CPU a little earlier than expected. Thanks for the help
