Is virtual surround sound worth it?

So Im in the market for a new headset and for example the razer kraken v2 has a 7.1 model and a stereo model, now razer synapse has to option to configure your 7.1 channels (simulated channels anyways) but it also has a razer surround option that enables virtual 7.1 in any stereo headset, so is there really any difference between the kraken pro and the kraken 7.1? or even the corsair void and the void 7.1. if so, is there really a large difference between stereo and virtual 7.1 in the first place?

No, because it doesn't really sound convincing enough and if developers are getting smarter, they would be using HRTF in their headphone modes. Like in:

I have 7.1 compatibiliy with my headphones but I never use it. It reduces the audio quality a bit, and I just dont like it.

Then, yes, it's worth it. 

 

If you're in the normal human range of 2 or 2 ears, you'll be fine with no surround since the audio only comes from, wait for it, two drivers.

@lolzisgoodforu I would look into better quality headphones before going to surround headphones. Accuracy across the spectrum is more important than virtual surround sound for accuracy. Luckily, most FPS engines have good audio positioning for headphones. 

 

For what it's worth, I have the G430 and I get more mileage out of my 7.1 speakers than I do with the [headphone's] Dolby Surround engine.

I'm still hung up on the virtual surround sound bandwagon with my Xbox1. Console --- TOSlink --- DSS2 --- HD555 or 515 headphones. Once my 2nd hand DSS2 finally dies, I'll abandon it an go Schiit.
