Hello,

So yesterday I switched over from Boost Mobile to a family plan on Cricket Wireless, due to my old phone not being compatible with the Cricket Network I ended up purchasing the LG Stylo 2 Demo Unit the store had retired with the phone is at the end of it's lifespan as a product that can be feasably sold. That was great for me as I managed to get the phone for $79 rather than $129. It's a great phone and I'm loving having the built-in stylus but I'd like to switch the phone over to a custom rom such as Cyanogen, it's replacement called Lineage OS, or some other custom ROM.

Before I decide if I will actually go through with this or not, I'd like to ask, would a demo unit be covered under warranty? And if it is, should I be able to revert the phone to it's stock configuration in the event that I need to bring it in for repair?

My procrastination is the bane of my existence.

I make games and stuff in my spare time.

I believe custom ROMs are not covered by warranty, but you can probably revert it and the manufacturer won't know any better.

Usually store demo units have limited warranty left. From what I have seen it's the original warranty minus the time it has been sitting in the store.

Not sure how it is where you live, but in the EU usually the first two years of warranty go via the store and if anything of warranty is left after those two years, you go to the manufacturer of the product (LG, in your case).

And as for rooting.. Technically voids your warranty (AFAIK), but I don't know if manufacturer's actually go through with that or just say that to scare off people.

I think that if the store has had the phone for a while, then any manufacturer warranty it might have had would have expired by now. You should see if your carrier offers some kind of warranty for used phones, though I doubt you'll have one.

But yes, you should revert your phone back to stock should you need to bring it in for repair.
