Hello everyone.

I am planning on building my first PC at the end of June and I would like some feedback on my plan. I tried to organize this post as best as I could.

Purpose

This is my first build and I am planning to use this computer for at least 5 or so years, thus I am trying to go fully into it, and make sure all of the components are best for the purpose.

I will be using this computer for programming, video / after effects editing (very minimal and simple ones) & gaming.
Gaming will be primarily focused on flight sim with Prepar3d V4 that came out recently.
I will also occasionally game BF1, Assasins Creed, GTA V, Far Cry etc.
I will be using VR gaming with HTC Vive or Occulus.
I am not sure if I will need overclocking or will do one for now, but it would be I guess good to have the capability of doing so if needed in future.

Budget

So, I saved up money for this build and it currently fluctuates between $4000 and $5000 USD. I am fine spending it, as long as I get the best rig and component combo I can out of it.

Polls

I set up a couple of polls for parts below that I am stuck in between and would be nice to have votes for them.

CPU

I am currently thinking about Intel i7 - 7700K 4.2GHz Quad Core.
Let me know if I should consider better one or wait for i9 or get i7 extreme.
Thanks

Motherboard

I am thinking here to get Asus Maximus IX Formula ATX LGA1151.
I am currently not sure if I should get Formula or Extreme.
The reason I want this one is that it comes with built-in WiFi and antennas that I can plugin from the back. It also has Crosschill EK II integrated into it for water cooling and other features.

Memory

I am thinking to get 32GB ram (to be safe in future)
Corsair Vengeance LED DDR 4 DRAM. Not sure if I should get 3000Mhz or 3200Mhz. There is an about $100 price difference, will that extra 200Mhz make a difference worth the extra price?

Storage

I am thinking to have SSD as the main drive and 2 HDD as secondary.

Main SSD: Samsung 960 EVO 1TB M.2

Secondary HDD (2x): WD Black Series  2TB 7200 RPM
The reason it is two 2TB instead of one 4TB is for backup purposes.

Video Card

This is one part I am kind of confused.
The current choice is, EVGA 1080 TI FTW3 iCX Card.
EVGA has also a Hybrid version, which I could get if I want to have all in one coolings, let me know what you think.

Also, let me know if EVGA is good manufacture to go with.

PSU: Edited
I am thinking to get Corsair AX 860i. I could go with 1200. I need to recalculate watt usage after all components are decided.

Case

So, I am considering aesthetics and look of my build one of the top priorities as well.
I am thinking to get, NZXT Phantom 820.
I could also get another case if I want to do custom loop cooling. People say Phantom 820 is good enough for a custom loop. So I need some help here too.

Let me know , If I should go with another case, for example, Corair 900D. Which is quite a bit of money for a case, imo.

Cooling

So cooling is the hardest part where I am currently stuck. I have never done water cooling and kind of what to go for it since my motherboard has a part and I am already spending so much money.

The part where I am stuck is, should I do Closed-Loop All in one or Custom Loop.

For Closed Loop;

I was thinking about NZXT Kraken X62 for CPU and that is it for now. Other components just airflow and their fans. I could get Hybrid 1080ti from EVGA to get that closed loop cooled too.
People complain about NZXT buggy software, so that is why I am not sure if I want them or not. But since their case is what I like, I thought going with same company for Case, cooling and fan would be a good idea.

For custom loop:

This one is a bit more confusing, even though I read up a lot and watching build guides from Linus. I used EKWB custom loop builder thing and below is the components, surprisingly based off of my case, video card and motherboard. Let me know if below parts are overkill, or not good quality. Thanks a lot

Also let me know if I should attempt to cool all components besides ram, for a start or just go with cpu for now.

While building the custom loop,  I choose to use

Bay reservoir in front of my case vs Cylindrical inside AND

Pump reservoir as separate units vs combo.

Let me know if I should change this setup.

Radiators:
EK Coolstream CE 280 dual
EK Coolstream XE 240 double

Pump: EK XTOP Revo D5 PWM

Reservoir: EK DBAY D5 MX

Other assembly components I won't bore you with :)

Case Fans

I want RGB fans, so I was thinking to get NZXT ones, because they have both 120 and 240 mm and its is software controlled. I looked at Corsair, but it is only 120mm and hardware controlled outside.

Let me know if there are other RBG software controlled lights to consider. I tried finding ones but no luck.

Monitor

So far my choice is; Asus Predator X34

Thanks a lot for reading. I appreciate any kind of feedback.

Damn, that's an expansive one haha. For programming and video editing i would go with the ryzen for sure. More cores and threads. The rest of the build looks good to me since you have the budget for it. Which psu are you getting?
